CD BOOK GAME APP OUR FAVOURITE... JUST IN TIME for the school holidays comes the DVD release of the heart-warming family film, Oddball. Swampy (Shane Jacobson), is an eccentric chicken farmer in the Victorian town of Warrnambool. Just off the coast is Middle Island, a sanctuary once home to thousands of the world’s smallest penguins, until foxes learned to cross the shallow channel from the mainland. The rapid decline in penguin numbers jeopardises the penguin sanctuary and the job of park ranger Emily Marsh (Sarah Snook), until Swampy’s mischievous Maremma Sheepdog, Oddball, provides a solution. When Swampy rescues THE BOOK OF Speculation is by no means an easy read. But it’s certainly worth the effort. A complex storyline involving myriad, equally complex characters will have you searching for answers right up until the gripping conclusion. (RRP $29.99) allenandunwin.com HIS CURRENT HOME may be Los Angeles, but Melbourne singer-songwriter Tim Wheatley’s new album, Cast of Yesterday (Sony), has a strong Australian feel to it. This is a great album with all 12 ‘alt folk’ tracks penned by Wheatley. He has a distinctive ‘smokey’ voice and plays guitar, harmonica and keys on the album, with good support from some other talented musicians. Recorded at Melbourne’s Sing Sing Studios and tastefully produced, this is a quality album of thoughtful lyrics, great melodies and stories that get you in. Every time I listen to it, I like it even more. Wheatley recently completed an Australian tour and is talking about another next summer. timwheatley.net LIFESTYLE | WATCH | READ | LISTEN | PLAY 28 THE ROAD AHEAD DEC 2015/JAN 2016 an injured penguin he discovers that Oddball is an expert at guarding penguins.
