features Use your RACQ card to access a world of benefits. STORY BELINDA PETERS Y our RACQ membership card is a handy item when your car won’t start, but did you know it could also save you money – particularly when travelling overseas? Automobile clubs around the world, such as RACQ, participate in the international Show Your Card & Save program, enabling members of all clubs to obtain benefi ts wherever they are. This is good news for members who booked their overseas trip while the Australian dollar was buying more than 90 cents US but are now facing the prospect of holidaying on a much weaker dollar. Taking your RACQ card with you could help make your dollars stretch that little bit further. Show Your Card & Save has more than 150,000 participating partner locations worldwide, giving you access to benefi ts in such locations as USA, Canada, Mexico, Europe, South Korea, South Africa and Japan. Discounts are available on everything from accommodation, restaurants and car hire to attractions, retail products and professional services. Those travelling to the US can gain discounts on their accommodation through major chains such as Best Western, Hilton, Mariott and more, as well as popular tourist attractions such as Hard Rock Cafe, Universal Studios and Grand Canyon Railway. London-bound travellers can save on Hertz hire cars, Le Meridian Hotels and Sheraton Hotels and Resorts, as well as a range of restaurants and tourist attractions. RACQ’s executive manager, membership & web services, Michelle Cocks, said the discounts offered were a real bonus for RACQ members travelling abroad. “Travelling with your RACQ membership card can translate Save overseas into real savings on your next holiday,” Ms Cocks said. “Each RACQ membership card includes the Show Your Card & Save logo on the front of the card, which is your international passport to savings. “Some travel and touring services can be booked in advance. For others, simply present your RACQ membership card at the participating partner to receive the discount or benefi t.” People driving while on holiday will also have access to maps and guides from the various local auto clubs and can access roadside assistance in such countries as the United Kingdom, Canada, the USA, Hong Kong and Singapore. The level of assistance however, varies from country to country. The Handbook for Motorists, available from your local RACQ branch, contains the names and addresses of the clubs and associations that offer RACQ members service in various countries. While at the branch, for $25 you can get an International Driving Permit (IDP), which is useful if you intend driving overseas. You’ll need your current driver’s licence and a recent passport-sized photo. For details of the discounts available in the participating Show Your Card & Save locations, visit www.sycs.com.au.
