Queensland Do it in Introducing 150 Must-Do’s in Queensland. Be part of it and you could win a car. STORY BELINDA PETERS ueensland is turning 150 and to celebrate, RACQ is giving you the chance to have your say on your favourite Queensland experience. RACQ’s 150 Must-Do’s in Queensland showcases what’s distinctive about Queensland, from the beauty of its natural environment to its heritage, culture, tourist destinations and events. Q The process began with the state’s 14 regional tourism organisations putting forward a number of experiences from their areas, resulting in more than 650 nominations. Representatives from Tourism Queensland (TQ)and RACQ then began the process of whittling the list down to the fi nal 150 ‘must-do’s’, while ensuring the list contained a variety of experiences across a broad range of regions. Whether you prefer to spend your holidays relaxing by the ocean, trekking the rainforest or exploring the outback, Queensland is home to some of Australia’s and the world’s most treasured holiday destinations and activities. At the 2007 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards held earlier in the year, Queensland won more awards than any other state or territory, taking out seven of the 25 categories. RACQ’s 150 Must-Do’s gives Queenslanders a chance to have a say on which experiences are a ‘must-do’ for visitors, while providing plenty of ideas for getting out and exploring the state. According to TQ statistics, tourism contributes $8.8 billion to the Queensland economy and last year domestic and international overnight visitors reached the 20 million mark. In these times of higher fuel prices and unstable economic conditions, it is an ideal opportunity to rediscover your own backyard. The 150 Must-Do’s list shines a light on popular attractions and hidden gems to inspire your next holiday or weekend visit. Voting is now open and will continue through to January 31, 2009. All voting is to be carried out via the interactive website www.150mustdos.com.au. The list, while a product of many hours of discussion and analysis, will never be completely exhaustive but every effort has been made to come up with indicative Queensland experiences across various regions and for travellers of all ages and tastes. Voters can also suggest a favourite not on the list in the ‘one that has been missed’ section of the website. Vote for your favourite The website includes photos and information about each of the 150 ‘must-do’ experiences and visitors can search for experiences that interest them from the following categories: • Indulgence. • Family. • Scenic splendour. • Adventure.
