After dark the locals get serious, closing up the shops and heading for the night life. Most tapas bars are small and cosy, catering to a dozen or more patrons at a time and each with its own unique style. Madrid is a city that is easy to lose yourself in, much to the pleasure of both drivers and passengers. PRAGUE With the exception of Rome and Paris, the city of Prague is one of the least convenient places in Europe to be navigating a coach. The streets are charmingly narrow, often shared with tram-cars and some of the bridges are closed to traffic. But drivers love it. Prague's Old Town Square is something of a beer-lover's paradise, but the medieval architecture and the gothic Tyn Church dominate the scene to make it an historic highlight of the city. Pedestrian laneways and cobble-stoned streets surround the square, each leading to cafes and decadent chocolate shops. Music is a big part of life in Prague. Jazz bands share their tunes on the pavement, play to packed bars and busk on the bridges. Charles Bridge is nothing short of a shopping mall on a sunny afternoon, jammed with stalls and pedestrians crossing the river. Many tours spend an extra day in Prague because there's so much here to experience. Passengers take river cruises, and guided walks of the city's cultural trails or immerse themselves in the Jewish Quarter. Even the bus drivers leave the coach behind on their day off and make use of the extensive rail and tram network. Throw in a few palaces and castles and you have a classic European city that reflects a heritage spanning eastern and western influences. When you're in Prague, you really feel like you're in central Europe, with its touches of medieval flare balanced by refined aristocratic architecture.
