Gothic garage STORY BELINDA PETERS From the outside, RACQ member Jack Sim's garage may appear like any other backyard shed, but step inside and a whole new world is revealed. As the roller door slides up, you'd be forgiven for thinking you'd stumbled upon something sinister. Several coffins occupy pride of place alongside a collection of old morgue equipment in working order. Next to that, you'll find Jack's 1939 Studebaker President Straight-8 hearse called Lulu. But when you find out that Jack is a renowned dark historian, author and founder of the company Ghost Tours, it all begins to make sense. Jack only recently constructed the shed as his centre of operation and moved in on Halloween 2006. Looking fur ther into the shed, a black cur tain is drawn over another door with the plaque 'Ghost Tours' above an ominous, black-hooded figure. Any fears about the room's purpose are alleviated when you step through the door and the darkness of the outer room is replaced with stark white walls and lab-like fluorescent lights. Although it is quite clearly a well set-up place of work, it is definitely a home office with a difference. Even if you could ignore the collection of 'funeralbilia' that is dispersed around the workplace, it would be hard to stand in this shed and think of it as just a home office.
