The Road Ahead : April 2013
ROADAHEAD.COM.AU THE ROAD AHEAD APR/MAY 2013 60 CareFlight will mark the 20th anniversary of its partnership with RACQ by releasing a pair of limited edition CareFlight Bears, and readers of The Road Ahead have the opportunity to be among the first to add them to their collection. CareFlight Fundraising Executive Manager Leanne Angel said it was decided to create a modern RACQ patrol bear and a heritage RACQ patrol bear because the patrol was such an iconic image of the RACQ brand. While designing the modern RACQ patrol bear was relatively easy, creating a concept for the heritage bear proved to be more of a challenge. RACQ Archives Administrator Robyn Harris searched through the archives for an image of an original RACQ patrol, which was then transformed by a CareFlight artist into a concept for the new bear. The RACQ Patrol pair of bears will be available to the public at the end of May, but RACQ members can pre-order by phoning 1300 227 335. careflightrescue.org.au/shop BEARY GOOD CAUS IF YOU HAVE been in an accident or intend to drive while you are away on holidays, you may need to hire a rental vehicle. There are a number of issues to consider before hiring. You are bound by the terms and conditions of the rental vehicle agreement. Those terms could make you liable for any damage you cause to the rental vehicle while it is in your care. Keep a copy of the terms and conditions and if necessary, get advice about them from a private solicitor or free community legal centre. To avoid being held responsible for any damage you did not cause to the rental vehicle, make sure you get a representative of the hire vehicle company to note every instance of pre-existing damage including damage to underneath of the vehicle, on the diagram of the vehicle before you take delivery of it. Alternatively, if you are not able to do this, make sure you take time and date stamped photographs of the vehicle from a variety of angles. If the car is returned in an undamaged state, make sure that this is acknowledged on the forms that the rental vehicle company uses. Ask for signed copies of the forms and diagrams of the vehicle noting any pre-existing damage. However, if the vehicle is involved in an accident during the rental period, you may be required to pay for the repairs to the vehicle. This is because, even if the rental agreement enables you to have any applicable excess fee waived, it may not release you from being liable if the car is damaged in any way. The newest addition to RACQ's network of 36 Queensland stores has been designed with members in mind, according to RACQ Executive Manager Retail Andrew Palmer. In addition to providing the full gamut of RACQ services to members, the new store features a full-service RACQ Travel agency, a drive tourism centre complete with self-service PC's and printing facilities, a retail bookshop with lounge area and, in a first for the club, a self-service movie ticket kiosk. Mr Palmer said the fact that RACQ sold more than 450,000 movie tickets last year influenced the decision to include the movie ticket kiosk, which enables members to buy and print their own discounted movie tickets, into the design of the new store. "The design has allowed us to bring travel back into the city store and incorporate all our traditional services plus a few technological elements to enhance members' experience," Mr Palmer said. "It's our current store fit-out specification, plus some."
