TRAVEL | QLD GREAT ESCAPE IMAGINE A HOLIDAY where it's all about wellbeing. A holiday from which you return not only feeling refreshed and revitalised, but committed to a healthier way of life. The Sunshine Coast is a Mecca for produce that is fresh, healthy and tasty. To gain a true appreciation of just how much fine food is produced there, take a stroll through the Noosa Farmer's Market on a Sunday morning. What began as an outlet for a few local farmers now attracts producers from far and wide, showcasing organic produce, artisan cheeses, olive oils and breads. It is a foodie's paradise, but having fresh ingredients is one thing. Knowing what to do with them is quite another. That's where Martin Duncan comes in. Martin opened Freestyle Escape -- a food and art haven - in the Sunshine Coast hinterland to share his passion and skill for cooking. But if you're like me and refuse to set foot in a kitchen whilst on holiday, then a degustation menu at the award- winning Reserve Restaurant in Maleny is a must. Pumpkin and truffle oil soup, slow-braised shoulder of Junee lamb and vanilla panna cotta were just a few of the delicacies on the menu. Needless to say I had plenty of motivation to join in a training session the next morning at Spicers Tamarind, as part of its new range of health packages. Spicers Tamarind is all about helping guests achieve balance between mind and body. Peaceful and private, the retreat gives you the option of doing as much, or as little, as you like. I did a little of both, first indulging in a hydrotherapy treatment and massage at Spa Anise before meeting Spicers personal trainer Jason Palmada. Armed only with a resistance band, Jason turned the spectacular scenery at Spicers Tamarind into a fitness circuit that could (and almost did) make a grown woman cry. I couldn't help but feel invigorated by the fresh air and natural surrounds. Now I can't walk past a park bench without feeling the need to knock out a few tricep dips or lunges before I sit down for my morning coffee. This concept of incorporating exercise into everyday life is what inspires Noosa-based Nikki Fogden-Moore, whose Life's a Gym programs and products are designed to give people the tools they need to achieve their health and fitness goals. Nikki believes there's no place better than the Sunshine Coast to achieve a healthy mind and body. I have to admit, I reckon she might just be right. soul kind of feeling TO NOURISH THE SOUL, AS WELL AS THE APPETITE, LOOK NO FURTHER THAN THE SUNSHINE COAST.
