HOW IT WORKS: Go online to the racq.com home page and look for the Fair Fuel Prices board. Type in the postcode of the locality where you want to buy fuel, and hit the 'search' function. This will take you to the RACQ Fair Fuel Price page. Select your desired type of fuel (E10, unleaded, premium unleaded or diesel) from the drop down box, and hit 'search'. In the cities of SEQ, up will come the retail outlet name, fuel brand, price per litre, address and when the data was collected, for the cheapest sites. This can be compared with what RACQ considers a fair fuel price to be at the time, and whether it is a good time, or not, to buy -- information and advice that is listed above on the page. There are also indicators as to whether the average price is low or high, or whether prices are going up or down. In regional Queensland, the service presents a fair price and whether the current average price for the town is fair, or is too high. To further broaden your search, there is the option of inserting two more postcodes. The RACQ can help with its new Fair Fuel Price service. Club spokesperson Joe Fitzgerald said the RACQ had developed the service to inform motorists about how much they should be paying at the bowser, rather than what retailers were charging. "RACQ's Fair Fuel Price provides a reasonable price for motorists to help them decide when and where to fill up," Mr Fitzgerald said. "It gives the power back to consumers by helping take the guesswork out of fuel pricing, and over time can make a real difference to your budget." The August launch of the Fair Fuel Price service was fast-tracked after the RACQ called on consumer watchdog, the ACCC, to investigate fuel retailers for suspected market manipulation through shopper docket incentives. "We believe fair prices should be available to all consumers regardless of where they choose to buy their groceries," Mr Fitzgerald said. "Combined with the price of ULP hitting a new record daily average of 165.4cpl (in July), this is a great opportunity for motorists to fight back and save money." The RACQ Fair Fuel Price is available for Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast and more than 30 regional centres.
