UPCOMING EVENT Tweed Fusion -- October 4-5 An ideal way to soak up the Tweed's unique mix of art, natural beauty and produce, held over the October long weekend. tweedfusion.com.au homewares and fashion. There is even a 'secret' spot around the side of the gallery, where you're welcome to enjoy a takeaway coffee and a bite to eat, enjoying that magical view. Across the border, and turning onto the Tweed Valley Way, the view dissolves into magic of a different kind -- the greenest of green hills and paddocks with Wollumbin Mount Warning the impressive centrepiece. Nestled among this greenery lies Tropical Fruit World, a sprawling property that is home to more than 500 varieties of tropical fruits. Park admission includes a guided tour of the property on a plantation safari, a fruit tasting show and a chance to enjoy the park's many hidden attractions, including mini train rides, a jungle riverboat cruise and fauna park. An onsite cafe and a gift shop feature gourmet foods and natural skin care. Back on the Tweed Valley Way, Murwillumbah is just another 15 minutes away and, although the town is the commercial hub of the Tweed, its looks remain those of a vintage country town with art-deco shop fronts and Federation-style buildings. Stopping in at the Tourist Information Centre at the entrance to town is an ideal way to get the good oil on deciding your own adventure around the myriad of tourist drives and trails that wind their way around Wollumbin Mt Warning. While there, make sure you look at the Caldera Art Gallery, a 20-metre long painting of the 360-degree view from its summit. Leaving town, I choose to follow Tourist Drive 34 towards Chillingham and then onwards on the 36 towards Tyalgum, where I stop for lunch at the quaint Flutterbies Cafe. Enjoying a warming bowl of potato and zucchini soup overlooking the misty backdrop of the Wollumbin Mt Warning, Caldera was a drive highlight. The tourist drive continues its winding and picturesque way through villages such as Uki and Stokers Siding and past one of the jewels in the region's crown -- the Tweed River Art Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre. This purpose-built gallery would not be out of place in a capital city, but for its panoramic views of the Tweed River, Wollumbin Mt Warning and Border Ranges. The Margaret Olley Art Centre, which opened this year, is a highlight, in particular the amazing recreation of her Surry Hills home and studio.
